Earlier this year Mashiro Sakurai, the creator of Super Smash Bros announced that he is going to retire. He also announced that the Fighter’s Pass Volume 2 final character to be released will be the last. Sakurai revealed that he is happy for his achievements for the last 10 years developing Super Smash Bros.
Mashiro Sakurai describes Super Smash Bros as his Life’s work because he has been at it for a long time. Since the announcement of his retirement, the fans have been waiting patiently for the reveal of the final DLC fighter. But things took a different turn when some events led fans to believe Doom Guy is the final mystery character. Here are some of the reasons why Doom Guy is being rumored to be the final smash ultimate character.
Mashiro Sakurai Teaser
Sakurai posted a photo of what looks like a hand submerged in Lava with a thumbs up. A Twitter user jokingly replied to the tweet and asked “Doom 2016 reference DOOMGUY CONFIRMED?!?!????” So far the reply has received more than 1.7k likes and a lot of mixed reactions. This is because the photo is clearly referencing terminator 2. But most fans believe that it’s a reference to The Demon Slayer.
When you die in lava in the Doom Game of 2016, the character shows a thumbs up after some idle time. However, his thumbs up is facing a different direction from the one Sakurai Posted on Twitter.
Mashiro Sakurai has not said anything yet after uploading the picture. Since most of the characters have a dedicated game, The Doom Slayer has more chances than the Terminator. This photo tease technique is a popular stunt used by creators to create hype. This is why fans are divided between Terminator and Doomguy. Another small portion of Twitter users think it could be an Among Us reference because of a map with a similar thumbs-up submerged in Lava.
Bizarre Nintendo Copyright
A copyright strike by Nintendo in June strengthened the rumors of having the Demon Slayer as the final Super Smash Bros Character. A Twitter user with the username XonKeD posted an ad of the Doom Eternal AD only for Nintendo to claim the video. The Smash Bros fans were quick to speculate that Nintendo is protecting the final DLC surprise.
Fans Manifestation
Fans have been manifesting about having Doomsguy as one of the DLC's characters. Even when the evidence clearly references other characters, some fans still manage to connect it with the Demon Slayer. This shows how much everyone wants him to be the final Super Smash Bros character. He has a unique skill set and is one of the most requested character additions in other games as well, such as Crash Bandicoot.
Final Thoughts
All the characters will be released before December 21st, 2021. So we are close to seeing if the rumors about Doomguy are true. Most people are rooting for him because of his skill set and his figure in gaming History. He will definitely stand out among all the Smash characters. Besides, it would make Mashiro Sakurai’s retirement even more memorable.
