Ever since the release of the first movie game, Raiders of the Lost Ark, only a few entries can be classified as legendary. The problem is that we always expect movie games to be as good as the film, only to get disappointed after the release. The perception of this category has changed over the years because fans have learned to lower their expectations. In this article, we will look at movie games that turned out Legendary.
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003)
Platforms: Game Boy Advance, PlayStation 2, Java, macOS, Mobile, Microsoft Windows, Game cube, Classic Mac OS
Fans claim that this game will always be the best of the Lord of the Rings series. It has a great visual representation, and it recreates events from the film perfectly. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King was released in 2003, inspired by Peter Jackson's 2002 movie. The difference between its predecessors is that it comes with a more interactive environment, more playable characters, and multiple storylines. Besides getting accorded for its visuals, fans have lauded the game for its audio and gameplay too.
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
Platforms: PlayStation 2, GameCube, Game Boy Advance, MacOS, Xbox, Microsoft Windows, N-Gage, Nintendo DS, PSP
This is an action-adventure game based on the 2004 Spider-Man 2 and additional materials from the comic books. It follows the same plot of the movie portraying spider man's struggles to balance his superhero and civilian life. Gamers claim that it is one of the best superhero games ever made because it closely follows the movie. It has amazing gameplay, several villains to battle, a big city, and lots to do. The developers nailed the swinging mechanics. Almost two decades after its initial release, fans are still chanting that it's the best Spider-Man game — an absolute legendary masterclass.
GoldenEye 007 (1997)
Platforms: Wii (remake) and Nintendo 64
This is a shooter game that was inspired by the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye. Despite being 24 years old, this movie game is still rated as one of the best. It was one of the first shooter games to feature multiplayer. Although few others before it, none of them brought friends together in groups to play on the same console all day. The best experience was splitting the TV into four different sections for each gamer.
GoldenEye laid the grounds for the successive games Call of Duty and Halo, which incorporated the same mechanics of splitting the screen later. The social experience was fun, especially when your siblings are cheering to your section of the screen. GoldenEye came with a wide range of weapons such as snipers, rifles, handguns, shotguns, and other offbeat selections such as lasers, silenced weapons, and instant-kill golden guns. Not forgetting the easy-to-remember cheats that rocked throughout the game. Unlike most modern games that charge premiums for cheats, in GoldenEye 007, they were free of charge.
Batman Forever (1995)
Platforms: Sega Genesis, Microsoft Windows, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, R-zone, Gameboy, DOS, Game Gear
Batman Forever is a superhero game that has received some mixed reactions. It is based on the Batman forever film. Some praise the game for its impressive graphics and digitized sprites, while others criticize it for poor controls and gameplay. Batman forever features normal and training modes. You can pick Batman or Robin as your character in the normal mode. But in the training mode, you can pick a villain as your character.
