Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Record Breaking Launch
Written by Amos Gikunda - Saturday, Apr 16, 2022 at 10:36am
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was released on 8th April 2022. After amassing about $71 million in the USA alone, it had a great opening weekend. According to Paramount Studios, it surpassed its target of $50 million and broke the record of the biggest opening for a video game movie. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 features Jim Carrey as Dr. Eggman and Idris Elba as Knuckles. Let's review the events as they happened during the release of the Sonic sequel.
Sonic Becomes the fastest grossing video game movie
This brings back memories of 1992 when Sonic the Hedgehog became the fastest-selling and grossing video game. Thirty years later, the movie became the fastest grossing movie in one weekend. After a good fast weekend, Sonic the movie still has the potential to outperform bigger names like Scream, which has grossed 140 million since January. The movie comes at a crucial time as the movie summer kicks off. It will keep fans busy with last's Month release, The Batman, until Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of madness launches next month. Furthermore, the record-breaking launch of Sonic the hedgehog shows that family movies are going to be a huge hit again for the first time since the pandemic. Family audiences, which form the most important Box Office segment, are ready to go back to the theatres
Idris Elba debuts as Knuckles
This didn't come as a surprise since Idris Elba can easily take on any role. The show features Tails, voiced by Colleen, and a foe known as Knuckles, voiced by Idris Elba. Over the years, the character has been voiced by various artists. Knuckles the Echidna first Appeared in the Segas series in 1994. He is a recurrent ally to Sonic. He has mixed character as he can be serious and focused but gullible at times. The main difference between his appearance to sonic is that he is red and has a beak. Knuckles is very powerful thanks to his spiked hands and can climb walls and glide.
Jim Carey is rumored to retire from acting
Jim Carrey made a shocking revelation that he is quitting acting on April Fool's day. In an interview, he jokingly said that "I gotta get outta here before I slap someone". This was a reference to Will Smiths' slap at the Oscars. Many thought it was a joke, but things seemed serious. But on a serious note, he said that he had missed a lot in his life during his years of acting.
Jim also revealed what he would be up to in his retirement. He revealed some things that he will be focusing on in his painting talent. He announced his plans to paint and turn them into. Additionally, he also added that he wants whole lots of nothing happening. Jim also said that life is too short for him to spend on Sequels and wants to move on.
Final Thoughts
Sonic, the hedgehog, has made a historical opening in North America. It has also challenged top titles by becoming the highest and fastest grossing movie. It's changing the way people view game-based titles.
