What to Expect From Nintendo in 2021

Super Smash Bros Ultimate – Master Chief
Ever since Banjo became part of the Smash Ultimate roster, players across the globe have been satisfied with the collaboration between Nintendo and Microsoft. In fact, many even speculate that Master Chief could also possibly become one of the next fighters in the game.
Apart from Halo’s Instagram leaks and hints, several videos have surfaced over the last few months, with one video showcasing Master Chief’s character model in Ultimate. The model does not fully adapt Master Chief’s physique. Some suspect that the video might be presenting Halo’s protagonist in a ‘deluxe’ Mii Fighter outfit.
Furthermore, another aspect to consider would be Phil Spencer’s recent video conference. Phil has been known for hiding items that hint towards gaming news on his shelf. And this time, a Nintendo Switch could be seen sitting on his shelf.
Splatoon 3 Gameplay
Following the immense success of Splatoon 2 as the launch title to the Switch, Nintendo dropped another announcement at the end of the February 2021 Nintendo Direct. And from the looks of it, the game will be releasing sometime next year.
Taking a look at the footage we have so far, the gameplay for Splatoon 3 can be seen in the final minute of the trailer. It showcases the standard Splatoon four versus 4 game mode, with a few noticeable differences. The rounds seem more explosive and volatile, dive-bombing straight into the fray, with tons of action-packed fights.
Some new weapons could also be seen — bows, cannons, launcher, and much more. And needless to say, Splatoon’s gameplay has never disappointed.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel Trailer
The Zelda series has been one of the most influential and well-acclaimed Nintendo franchises ever since the 80s. And although many players may not have known about its reputation, Breath of the Wild completely changed that as well, possibly making it the best open-world RPG to date. And what could possibly be better than having a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild!
The trailer for the sequel was presented during E3 2019, barely lasting 82 seconds and had no dialogue whatsoever. Moreover, the trailer featured Link and Zelda, walking through a dark dungeon underneath Hyrule. Our favorite characters walk past several spirit-like tendrils, and soon come across something truly shocking. The footage then cuts to the supposed ‘resurrection’ of a fearsome, ancient warrior — perhaps it is Ganondorf himself?
The final scene then cuts forward to the Hyrule Field, with Hyrule Castle clearly visible from a distance. Following an earthquake, the castle is seen smothered with dust. Alas, a written message can be seen, reading “The sequel to Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in development.”
Considering how massive the Breath of the Wild experience is, one cannot help but expect a release date for this year or 2022. The animation depicts how a considerable amount of developmental work has already been done.
Metroid Prime 4 Update
Ever since its announcement in January 2019, Nintendo has not shared any further information or leaks. However, after following the individuals in Metroid Prime 4’s development team, we did manage to grab some credible information.
Jon Marcella, one of the lead level designers for God of War III recently became part of the Metroid Prime 4 team as its environment designer. The God of War games have been known and loved for their spectacularly designed levels, puzzles, hidden lore and items. Therefore, one can expect a lot from this game designer and how he contributes to the game’s development.
Moreover, Retro Studios required a storyboard artist to join the team for helping define emotional scenes, as well as elevating the narrative when exploring the game. While the job-post seemed a little too late into the game, it still links to Nintendo and its Metroid Prime franchise.
Upcoming Nintendo Switch Pro
The release of a sequel to Nintendo’s best-selling console to-date, seems rather imminent. And seeing how powerful the next-gen consoles for Sony and Xbox are, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Nintendo packing the same amount of power. Not to mention, with NVidia’s phenomenal DLSS upscaling, even a portable console can simulate 4K gaming.
While Nintendo has yet to confirm or dispel the rumors, experts speculate a new console release from Nintendo this year. Taking into account a report by Bloomberg, it indicates how the developers are required to make their games playable in 4K, thus further cementing the fact that Nintendo is headed towards higher-resolution gaming. Furthermore, several other platforms also hint at Nintendo acquiring new displays for the upcoming console. In fact, Dr Serkan Toto — Japanese consultancy firm, firmly claims the introduction of 4K gaming to Nintendo.
Nevertheless, just like the unannounced release date, the pricing also remains unknown. However, if we were to take a safe guess, we’d say the console would around $349.99 to $399.99. This would make it roughly $100 more expensive than the base models we already possess.
